The Inaugural "You Are What You Eat"

So....bear with me as my "You Are What You Eat" blog starts out super primitive and transitions to ultra so-fist-i-cated (this could take a while!). I'm a bit of a novice on the blogging front. I would say I am complete novice (have you seen how gorgeous and complex some blogs are?!) but I have blogged in the past, so I am not a complete newbie. But back then (like...two whole years ago!) blogs were, well, a little more simplistic. My how things have changed!!

Speaking of change, I started this blog to share health & nutrition information with you. Why? Because the news has CHANGED!! A LOT!! And, sadly, many "thought leaders" of the past are still, well, in the past. Their thinking is old, stale, and inaccurate. We know oh-so-much more today about the intricacies of how our bodies work (although I suspect that we still don't know the half of it!) and how food, exercise, stress, and rest nourish and/or rob us of our health. Not only do we know a lot more, we disagree a lot more. While this isn't necessarily bad (every good scientist should relish the opportunity to defend their conclusions!), it does leave a great deal of confusion amongst the simple sidewalkers like you and me. Someone needs to clear up some of this confusion and begin to set the record straight!

Why me? Well, why not!? For one, I'm Type A. So I have the need to know a lot of information. And I am reluctant to simply believe everything I read or am told. I, to put it nicely, like to ask A LOT of questions. And, other than being an RN, I have a personal interest in wellness. All wellness. Everything that leads to optimal health.

I've been undergoing my own personal transformation in health over the last year-ish trough yoga, mediation, and now a clean whole-food diet. To me, clean means nothing added - no coloring, flavoring, or preservatives - no pesticides/herbicides (if possible!) - no nothing other than other whole foods. To me whole foods means as close to its natural state, whether it be animal (no I am not vegetarian nor do I think it's necessary or even better for your health!) or plant food, as possible. If you haven't read between the lines yet, I gave up EVERYTHING processed. It's not an easy road to take. But my health has and continues to dramatically improve (as has that of my family - hubby was asked the other day if he's a triathlete ;)!) in ways that I could not have imagined, and, thus, I consider it a worthwhile road!

My vision for this blog is that the road be somewhat smoothed for you if you chose to radically improve your health!

I can't promise you I will get it all right or even clear up all of your confusion (I, admittedly, am still confused about a good bit of info myself!). But I do promise to do my homework to the best of my ability and to summarize information for you in a manner that is useful to you - which is quite the tall order!

Your job is to keep me honest (by asking challenging questions) and to let me know what topics are of interest to you.

My first REAL blog topic with be about FAT. Not the fat that makes your jeans too tight. The fat that you consume as part of your diet. I chose this topic because if there's one thing I know for sure KNOWLEDGE HAS CHANGED and THERE IS A LOT OF DISAGREEMENT! It's a tough topic to start a new blog. That's how important I think it is.

If there's something of particular confusion regarding dietary fat that's impeding your health goals, let me know and I will do my best to cover your question(s) in my blog post.

Until then, I will leave you with this: you're very likely not eating enough (of the right dietary) fats which could not only be making you fat but also could be making you anxious and depressed or unable to focus. I hope I have your attention!!
